The first Comparative Study on alpHaONE™ was presented at BSG LIVE’24

28 June 2024

At the BSG LIVE'24 conference in Birmingham, UK, from June 19-21, researchers from Guy's and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, including R. Rusu et al., presented a comparative study titled "A comparison of two wireless pH recording systems -An analysis of the attachment duration and patients' tolerability.

The study encompassed 399 cases, with 202 patients undergoing alpHaONE™ monitoring and 197 using Bravo™. Key findings included:

Excellent Tolerance and Capsule Retention: Both systems demonstrated excellent tolerance and capsule retention rates over 96 hours.

Performance Comparison: alpHaONE™ had a lower premature detachment rate, lower artefacts and similar tolerability when compared with the Bravo system.

The figure below illustrates the operational duration within 96 hours for both wireless capsules: the blue line represents Jinshan alpHaONE™ pH Wireless Capsule, while the red line represents Medtronic Bravo™ pH Wireless Capsule.

Among the 202 patients who underwent alpHaONE™ pH Capsule examination, the number of cases with capsule attachment times reaching 96 hours, 72 hours, and 48 hours were 184 (91%), 195 (96.4%), and 198 (97.9%), respectively. For the 197 patients who underwent Bravo™ pH Capsule examination, the corresponding numbers were 149 (75.6%), 171 (86.6%), and 187 (94.6%).

In the 96-hour test, the success rate of alpHaONE™ pH Capsule examination significantly exceeded that of Bravo™ Capsule, with statistical significance.

Patient Preference and Feedback: Patient surveys revealed a preference for alpHaONE™, with 116 out of 126 respondents recommending its use, compared to 83 out of 91 for Bravo™.

alpHaONE™ is China's first and the world's second wireless pH monitoring device, offering extended operating time with monitoring data lasting up to 96 hours, ensuring a reliable and stable analysis foundation. The system's diagnostic software automatically analyzes pH data and generates examination reports, facilitating swift diagnoses for doctors. Additionally, capsules do not require calibration, simplifying operation for medical professionals.
